Filaments play a key role in star formation as dense cores, the star progenitors, are observed to form within them. In this work, we study the filament structure of the infrared dark cloud (IRDC) SDC18 using JCMT POL-2 data at wavelengths of 850 µm. Cores in the filaments are identified by dendrogram method and their physical properties are derived. In addition , we determine the filament structure using DisPerSE algorithm and investigate magnetic field and gravitational force in the region. Then , we analyze their relation with orientation of filaments and cores and discuss the possible origin of the variation along the SDC 18 filament.
