Hydrodynamics and stability analysis of a system with cosmic ray viscosity

Interaction between cosmic rays and thermal plasma causes them to advect and diffuse through the plasma. In the process cosmic rays may gain or lose energy. We are interested in a seldom discussed acceleration mechanism called cosmic ray viscosity which occurs in shear flows. We develop a self-consistent hydrodynamical model for cosmic ray propagation in plasma including cosmic ray viscosity. The model includes stress term induced by cosmic ray viscosity in the momentum equation, and a stochastic acceleration-like term in the cosmic ray energy equation. In this contribution, we carry out linear stability analysis on a simple steady state solution of the model.
