Abstract

Estimates of the mass accretion rates of DQ Tau and V1000 Tau

The brightness curves of T Tauri stars (TTSs) are determined by a number of physical factors including spots, flares, accretion, and disk occultation. For example, the rotational modulation effect caused by the presence of starspots is prominent in some T Tauri stars but not others. In fact, several types of TTS light curves may be identified indicating different accretion and dynamic processes. A recent analysis of the Kepler K2 light curves of the pre-main-sequence binary DQ Tau shows how flares and accretion events could be neatly separated from the periodic variation due to star spots. In this study, we examine the brightness variations of DQ Tau and another classical T Tauri star, V1000 Tau, and compare their similarities and dissimilarities. In particular, we explore the possibility that the brightness variation of V1000 Tau is related to the accretion column switching effect proposed by Cemeljic and Siwak (2020). In addition, we estimate the mass accretion rates of DQ Tau and V1000 Tau, respectively, which result in a maximum amount of 2 × 10−8 M⊙yr−1 for DQ Tau and 1.89 × 10−9 M⊙yr−1 for V 1000 by assuming a number of physical parameters connecting to the physical properties of the central protostars.
