The 2008 Annual Meeting of the Chinese Astronomical Society (Taiwan) will be held at the International Conference Hall in the Gymnasium, National Hualien University of Education in Hualien, from 30th May (Fri) to 1st June (Sun).We are looking forward to your attendance. To date, there are 129 registered participants. 2 invited and 26 contributed talks, as well as 56 posters will be presented in the meeting. In addition, the conference for science education will be held in parallel.
Participants are requested to note the followings:
* Opening Reception
The opening reception will be held at 18:30, 30th May in the corridor and hall on the first floor of Chi-Sian Building (集賢樓), National Hualien University of Education.
* Registration:
Registration will start at 18:20, 30th May in the same place of reception and continue starting from 08:00 in 31st May and 1st June at International Conference Hall in the Gymnasium, National Hualien University of Education in Hualien. A registration fee of NT$500 should be paid on site. If you want to register as a new member, the admission fee of NT$200 should be paid as well.
* Parking and Taxi Service:
If you driving, please take this circular as the first permission to enter the campus (NHLUE). After registration, you could use your name badge as the permission. It is free for parking in the campus. If you need a taxi service, please call the Lotus (Lien-Hua) Cab Company, (038) 221053, which has a special deal with the convention. The rate from Hualien Train Station to NHLUE is NT$100, and NT$120 for Hualien Airport to NHLUE.

- Speaker: Prof. You-Hua Chu (Professor in Department of Astronomy, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)
Title: Comets Prancing around Dying Stars?
- Invited talk for Educational Session:
- Speaker: Prof. Shu-Fang Chen (Associated Professor in National Taitung University)
- Title: Indigenous Children's Astronomic Ideas and Inquiry Experience in a Cultural-responsive, Inquiry-based Astronomical Teaching Program
* Election for the 2008-2011 Trustee and Audit Members:
The election for the trustee and audit members will be held this year. If you are a member of the society, you could get a ballot in the registration desk when you check-in. The nominated members by the Trustee Committee are listed in the ballot, you could also nominate your candidate in your ballot. At most, 9 trustee members and 3 audit members could be elected in one ballot, and it will be invalid if the quota exceed. The ballot box will be near the registration desk. The election will be 08:00-18:30 in 31th May. The result will be announced at 9:00 A.M. in 1st June, and updated on our web site.
* General Assembly:
The General Assembly will be held at 14:30-15:45, 31th May in the International Conference Hall of Gymnasium, National Hualien University of Education. The 2007 editorial award of JTAM will be issued. A senior and audit committee member, Philip Tao, will give a talk about the semi-centennial of the society. Overture and discussion will be proceed in the assembly.
* Oral Presentation:
Due to the tie schedule, each oral presentation is expected no more than 10 or 13 minutes according to the talk subjects, and additional 1 minutes for questions. All speakers are recommended to copy your files for presentations into the notebook we prepare for the talks in advance of your sessions. The files in PowerPoint or PDF formats are strongly suggested. To avoid delay due to software problem, we also recommend the speakers who need to use multi-media (e.g. animation) in presentations to check if these files are able to run smoothly in the notebook for the talks as early as possible. If you are using Apple laptop, please bring your own video adapter (to VGA (D-sub)).
* Poster Exhibition:
Poster exhibition is scheduled from 10:00 in 31st May morning to 1st June noon. Please set up your posters by 10:00, 31st May. The size of poster broad is 90 cm (width) x 120 cm (height). Thumbtack will be prepared for the authors to post up their posters. The authors are suggested to stay beside their posters during the coffee break, especially between 12:30- 13:30 on 31st May, which is scheduled for referees' review. The authors of the best poster awards have to give 3-minute reports about their posters at 10:55-11:10 A.M. on 1st June. The poster exhibition will end at 12:00, 1st June. Please remove your posters by then, otherwise they will be discarded.
* Tour (Optional):
There will be one tour to Mukumugi after the end of the annual meeting at noon of 1st June. Who would like to enjoy the tour should enroll yourself in meeting registration. The fee is NT$400. The tour will departure around 13:00 and return around 17:00. Mukumugi is an beautiful place with natural scene. It is within a protection zone and will need the entrance permission. Please don’t forget to bring your photo ID/passport with you to apply the entrance permission.
